Kisaburō Nōjō - So many eggs

Tamago kake gohan is common breakfast dish in Japan. We’ve already had it twice this trip! Kisaburō Nōjō takes it to the next level by sourcing eggs with their own specific flavor profiles (and being all-you-can-eat!).

Kisaburō Nōjō - Eggs

A variety of fresh eggs to choose from

I’d first heard of this place many years ago and it was always on the list of things to try. You are served a bowl of rice and a small plate of pickled veggies. Then you pick out as many varieties as you can eat, crack them into your bowl, and enjoy over rice.

Yuzutama yolk atop very lightly seared chicken thigh and breast

(Brace yourself!) If you thought eating raw eggs was too adventurous already, let us introduce you to the Yuzutama Raw Oyakodon. This dish features a raw Yuzutama egg (the chickens are fed yuzu peels) on top of lightly seared, raw chicken over rice.

We have had many raw eggs and even raw chicken in Japan. The verdict? Kisaburō Nōjō had some of the best eggs we have ever had, though the raw chicken was just okay. The restaurant is out of the way and harder to get to. Go here if you happen to be nearby…or if you just love raw eggs as much as we do.
